The weight bounce and new highs

Everyone who attempts to lose weight, and tracks their progress, notices one thing: Their weight may go down, but it also goes up, then down, then up again, then down again. Insert sighing noise.

This mornings weigh-in (gym scale) put me at 283.5. Since I went from 286.5 to 283 over last weekend, I've hovered between 283 and 284 all week. Sure, it's frustrating to a certain degree, but I also see it as a positive. The "weight bounce," as some people call it, puts me with a high-side boundary of 284. As long as I'm not bouncing up to 286, it will eventually go down, right? And 284 is a much better boundary than the 289 I seemed to be stuck at in December.

Another step this morning. I ran 1/2 mile on the treadmill. While nothing major to many of you, a 6-foot tall, 284 lb man running on the treadmill is probably a scary sight. I still did my 30 minutes on the elliptical, did a few rounds of weights, then did my treadmill activity. My goal is to eventually move up to running more on the treadmill than I use the elliptical.

Eventually, I would like to get back into doing 5k races. While I hardly expect to win anything, it's great exercise, and also sets a GREAT example for my kids.

Last soda: 1/19. It's a good feeling to be able to count on your hands how often I've had soda this year.
