Down off the bounce

Finally, my body seems to have gotten itself together. "Bad, body, bad!" I say that as if other forces other than what I did contributed to the bounce I went through within the last week and a half.

On last Friday's weigh-in, I was at 285.5, and all trends were pointing to "great, here we go again!" Well, I'm happy to report we're back to the good side of the ledger. This mornings weigh-in was a solid 283.0, and yesterday was 283.5. The "family get together season" is over, until March when my wife's side of the family celebrates what seems like 30 birthdays. Yes, we're making progress again, and hopefully, we continue the trend.

Carry on my wayward son, don't you cry no more.

Though many things have changed in mine and my family's life over the last week, we're regrouping and moving on. That's partially why I haven't written anything here, or anywhere, for the most part. More on that later, possibly.

Yesterday's workout consisted of 1.5 mile run (OK, steady jog) and some weights. Why weights? Well, for one person who has looked at weights with disdain practically all his life, I need to build muscle mass. Why again? Because muscle mass burns calories in a state of rest. I'm certainly not going to be the next cover dude for Ripped Magazine, just stating facts.

I don't do a lot of running (OK! Jogging.....) because, well, fat people know what I'm talking about. Chaffing. Dude, that hurts. So, I more or less stick to the tried and true elliptical. With the elliptical though, it's important to have enough resistance so that you basically aren't running sprints through the air with no resistance. I usually do about 2 miles on that machine in 30 minutes. I do the "variety" option, and usually had the resistance on 3-4. Well, this morning I upped that bad boy to about 7 and promptly burned more calories in those 30 minutes than I had since starting with this gym back in January.  I've also found that with a higher resistance, I'm going farther. I've gone from just barely getting in 2.0 miles in 30 minutes to 2.1 with ease with the higher resistance.

Hope the progress continues!

As for the reason I started blogging about this, I have occasionally had soda, but not as much as I was mainlining last year. I usually have only a drink or two a week. My wife says I snore horribly, and last night I tossed and turned. We went to dinner last night to celebrate a friends birthday. Japanese steakhouse style. Rice. Chicken. Diet Coke. I wonder if there is a correlation between high sugar, high carb diets and fitful sleeping?
